EarthCruiser, an electric off-road camper for Hummer EV

All-wheel drive vehicles provide improved traction and power when required on wet or icy roads or off-road terrain. These vehicles also have high ground clearance compared to other cars, which enables them to navigate any terrain and rough conditions. However, these vehicles consume more fuel than other vehicles and emit harmful carbon into the environment. Many companies are switching to electric powertrains for their vehicles, including General Motors Company (GMC).

GMC makes truck-oriented vehicles, pickup trucks, and SUVs. The company is developing and making electric all-terrain trucks, such as the Hummer EV pickup with an ultium battery with an estimated range of up to 381 miles.

GMC partnered with Oregon-based EarthCruiser Overland Vehicles to create an overlanding camper solution that can be integrated into the Hummer EV pickup, and together, they developed a next-gen solution for electric pickups.

EarthCruiser is an upgraded camper that can be integrated into the top of a Hummer EV pickup for expanded space. This camper is made from carbon fiber and has a triple-layer pop-up roof for every season. Its height is 117 inches in camp mode, 90 inches in drive mode, and it is 217 inches long. The camper can provide sleeping space for 2.

The EarthCruiser is spacious, providing 35 inches of headroom in the bed area, 76 inches of hallway space, and 80 inches in the entry. It has many home-like amenities like a fridge, stainless steel sink, induction cooktop, 12V water heater, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen control panel, all powered by a 605-watt rooftop solar panel that provides electricity for seven days without connecting to the power grid.

The camper’s interior has an RV full-size bed, under-bed storage, integrated storage drawers, and cabinets. It also has dimmed interior lighting. Additionally, it can store filtered water and unfiltered water. Inside the camper are a 460Ah Li 12V battery and a 1500W inverter for power backup.

The EarthCruiser exterior includes lockable utility hook-ups, a keypad for lighting and system control, view lights, and a shower.

The Hummer EV pickup range after installing the EarthCruiser camper is yet to be announced. Likewise, they have yet to announce the price of the camper. The EarthCruiser is expected to be available next year.
