Motors finally unveiled the GMC Hummer EV electric pickup tonight with details on design, performance, cost, and time to market. The Hummer EV, which has now been presented, can be pre-ordered now and is expected to go into production in autumn 2021 – initially as the Hummer EV Edition 1 with three electric motors.
The new Hummer EV electric pickup truck is equipped with Ultium batteries, which have a range of more than 560 km with a full charge. Hummer EV enables direct-current charging with 800 volts. With the appropriate fast-charging stations, this results in a charging capacity of up to 350 kilowatts. To do this, the Ultium batteries switch from parallel to serial mode during the charging process. So you can refuel up to 100 miles (about 160 km) with electricity in 10 minutes. The storage capacity of the battery has not yet been announced, but the range is said to be over 350 miles (over 560 km).
This power pack is driven by three electric motors that offer a GM-estimated 1,000 horsepower (746 kilowatts) and laughable 11,500 pound-feet (15,592 newton-meters).
The US market launch for the Hummer EV is not until autumn 2021. At that time, only Edition 1 will be offered for $112,595, which is only available in white. As usual, the starter edition is very well equipped, including the Infinity Roof, the Watts to Freedom mode, adaptive dampers, an off-road package (underbody protection, 35-inch tires), and all-wheel steering with CrabWalk function and Super Cruise.
A year after the launch, a variant called EV3X follows for $99,995 and is expected to go on sale in autumn 2022. It offers three electric motors, over 588 kW, and a range of 300 miles (482 km) adaptive air suspension, Watts to Freedom mode, CrabWalk, and torque vectoring.
In spring 2023, the Hummer EV2X will be available for $89,995, the CrabWalk, which has only two electric motors (460 kW), all-wheel steering, air suspension, and a range of 300 miles (482 km). The basic EV2 model, which will be added in spring 2024, also only has two electric motors. GM only gives the range here with 250+ miles (i.e., more than 402 km). Here you have to do without most of the off-road extras of the EV2X but only pay $79,995.
In terms of design, the new electric Hummer is reminiscent of the earlier models but looks consistently more modern. The very beefy basic design of the large pickup was retained. The interior is characterized by clear lines and robust materials – albeit loosened up with bronze-colored design elements. The two large screens, one for the driver and the other free-standing in the middle of the dashboard, are striking.
