Soliddd Corp., a New York City-based optical and vision technology company, introduced its SolidddVision smart glasses technology at CES 2025. The technology is a boon for people with macular degeneration.
The SolidddVision smartglasses focuses on restoring and improving sight of people with macular degeneration and other low vision disorders. Along with sight restoration, it offers the first true vision correction.
The smartglasses use Soliddd’s unique lens arrays, which are similar to a fly’s eye. These lenses direct multiple images to the undamaged areas of the retina, helping the brain create a 3D image and a clear, focused picture that feels like normal vision.
The key behind the technology is the combination of unique optics and software, including computer vision AI technology. This combination sends multiple in-focus views to all areas of the retina using parallel-ray light. The brain combines these views into a single, clear, 3D image. Even if parts of the wearer’s field of vision are blocked or blurry, the extra visual information from other areas ensures they still see a full, bright, and well-focused image.
Neal Weinstock, CEO and founder of Soliddd, said, “Soliddd has invented the first true vision correction for macular degeneration. We can provide sight in areas of the visual field where patients otherwise see nothing.”
“SolidddVision smartglasses are lightweight and easily integrated into daily life. Our team is mission-driven to help restore and improve sight to the millions of consumers worldwide with vision loss caused by macular degeneration.”
Georgia K. Crozier, OD, MS, director of the Moore Eye Institute Vision Rehabilitation Center in Pennsylvania, said, “I was able to observe numerous demonstrations of SolidddVision with patients affected by numerous ocular disease conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and stroke. These patients responded positively to the improved visual acuity and all believed it would help them in their daily activities. The enhancement of their reading vision and the ease of use was remarkable. This technology will be groundbreaking.”
The company tested its technology in a 30-person clinical study. It found promising results: Many participants improved their reading ability by 50 percent or more.
