REI unveils its first in-house e-MTB under Co-op Cycles brand

Seattle-based outdoor retailer Recreational Equipment, Inc (REI) unveils DRT e3.1, its first in-house designed electric mountain bike (e-MTB) under its Co-op Cycles brand.

“Experiencing the thrill of the ride on an e-bike is exhilarating, and we are pleased to introduce an all-around, high-performance, e-MTB option for our customers,” says Isabelle Portilla, REI vice president of REI Co-op Brands in a statement. “We know e-bikes help more people get out and ride or get back into riding. This bike’s selection of high-end components and pedal power, combined with REI’s included maintenance support, offers tremendous value to riders so they can focus on having a blast on the trails.”

The DRT e3.1 e-MTB is equipped with a Bosch Performance Line CX mid-drive motor that provides a torque of 85Nm and Class 1 pedal assist up to 20 mph (32 km/h). The e-bike is powered by removable PowerTube 625 Wh battery. However, the company has yet to provide any information about the bike range.

The bike is made of an aluminum frame and is available in five different frame sizes that accommodate riders from 5 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall. Also, the bike features a riser handlebar and dropper seatpost on an aluminum stem.

The DRT e3.1 e-MTB weighs 55 lb (25 kg) and can support rider or cargo weight of up to 300 lb (136 kg).

The DRT e3.1 e-MTB features a RockShox Recon Silver RL 140mm fork in front and a Deluxe Select Plus RT 130 mm in rear shock absorber that delivers a balanced and trail-ready ride.

Additionally, the electric mountain bike has integrated with the SRAM SX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain, offering a capable and versatile range for various trails.

The new electric bike boasts 27.5-inch or 29-inch tubeless-ready tires and double-wall alloy rims wrapped in 2.6-inch-wide Kenda Navegal bike tires. The e-MTB features a Tektro 4-piston hydraulic disc brake, providing precise stopping power with minimal hand effort.

The REI Co-op DRT e3.1 e-MTB is priced at $4,999 and is only available to Co-op members until the end of October, after which it will go on general sale.

REI is committed to providing exceptional customer support, including free flat tire repairs, as well as a 20% discount on in-store services. For non-members, this support is available for one year from the date of purchase, while REI Co-op Members receive two years of support.
