LG’s new PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier looks like a face mask

The face mask boom is not over yet. Brands of all kinds continue to show their proposals, from simple cloth masks in retail stores, to innovative devices that filter the air. Now, the renowned company LG Electronics has introduced a portable air purifier that is worn on the face like a mask.

The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier uses a pair of high-performance replaceable H13 HEPA filters similar to what you would find in LG’s range of home air purifiers, combining them with battery-operated Dual Fan and a patented Respiratory Sensor to help you breathe. The Respiratory Sensor tracks how fast you are breathing and how much air you are inhaling, and the three-speed fans adjust their pace accordingly. The fans automatically speed up to assist air intake and slow down to reduce resistance when exhaling to make breathing effortless. It may be comfortable enough not to fog up your lenses.

It focuses on air purification to provide a new level of protection. The LG PuriCare Wearable will come with a one-of-a-kind case, containing UV-LED lights that kill harmful germs. The case can even charge the mask and sends a notification to the LG ThinQ mobile app (Android/iOS) when the filters need to be replaced for peak performance. The lightweight 820mAh battery is said to offer up to eight hours of operation in low mode and up to two hours in high mode.

Also, the designers used “extensive facial shape analysis” to develop a mask that is comfortable enough to wear for hours, but tight enough to “minimize air leakage around the nose and chin.” Besides, as every component of LG PuriCare Wearable – from the filters to the ear straps – is replaceable and recyclable, it’s an environmentally responsible solution as well.

The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier is an exciting addition to our growing lineup of products designed to deliver meaningful health and hygiene benefits, said Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “At a time when consumers are seeking ways to make life safer and more convenient, it’s important that we’re able to offer solutions that add measurable value.”

LG’s announcement ahead of IFA 2020 does not explicitly mention the COVID-19 pandemic, but it largely implies that the mask was developed in response to it. However, it is important to note that LG’s press release does not claim that the mask slows the spread of the coronavirus, even if it filters the air when you exhale or inhale.

We hope that it will supply more details during its IFA 2020 virtual exhibition. The Korean electronics giant does not say exactly when the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier will launch or how much it will cost, but it does note that it will be available starting in the fourth quarter “in select markets.”
