LG’s smart home AI agent is a moving smart hub

LG is innovating in the AI-assistant space by introducing a new AI assistant that will roam around a user’s home on two wheels. Unlike traditional stationary devices like smart speakers, this robot can follow users around and provide assistance wherever they go.

The company plans to officially unveil it at CES in Las Vegas next month. The robot, which has not been named yet, is simply being referred to as “LG’s smart home AI agent.”

LG’s smart home AI agent is truly impressive, boasting advanced robotic, AI, and multi-modal technologies. This enables the device to move around the house, learn, comprehend, and easily engage in complex conversations. As an all-around home manager and companion, it enhances users’ daily lives and makes their routines more efficient.

The smart home AI agent’s unique ‘two-legged’ wheel design allows it to navigate autonomously and freely around the house. It can interact with users verbally and express emotions by moving its articulated leg joints. The multi-modal AI technology it uses combines voice and image recognition with natural language processing, enabling the device to comprehend context and intentions and actively communicate with users.

This fascinating smart home technology functions as a moving hub, connecting and controlling all the smart home appliances and IoT devices. It perceives its environment via both optical and depth-sensing cameras, which, combined with Qualcomm’s Robotics RB5 Platform, allow the bot to identify human faces, pets, and various household objects.

With a built-in camera, speaker, and several sensors, it can collect real-time environmental data such as temperature, humidity, and indoor air quality. The AI agent can analyze this data and even learn from external information to provide you with an advanced and personalized smart home experience. It can also function as a pet monitor and security guard, alerting you if it detects any unusual activity.

In addition, the versatile and scalable LG smart home AI agent can even patrol the house when nobody is there, checking for open windows and lights left on and sending notifications to the user’s smartphone. The AI agent can also help save energy by turning off unused devices in the house through a smart outlet.

When the user comes back home, the AI agent greets them at the front door and selects music or content based on their mood by analyzing their voice and facial expressions. It also provides useful information such as transportation details, weather updates, personal schedules, and medication reminders to assist users in their daily lives.

“Our groundbreaking smart home AI agent combines cutting-edge autonomous mobility and AI technologies with advanced communication capabilities and services to help free customers from household chores,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company in the press release. “A smart life solution company, LG will continue to help customers experience a smarter, more enjoyable life at home.”
