Florida-based Norwegian superyacht designer Kurt Strand has revealed his latest Superyacht concept, the 160 Meter sailing superyacht “Florida.” It is a magnificent sailing boat whose sails are not what they have always been; that is, they are not made of sailcloth. It comes with some advanced futuristic sailing technology.
The Florida superyacht has space-age technology wing masts made from carbon fiber that support these imposing electro-hydraulic telescopic retractable sails. Three 80 meter tall wing sails are even covered with the latest state of art solar panels so that, when there is no wind, this modern superyacht can transform into “solar sail” mode and can also produce electric power from solar panels.
There is also a built-in system that will wash and polish the wing mast every time it retracts, ensuring it can produce maximum solar power. Power will be stored in the battery bank and can be used for onboard Hydrogen production as well. The vessel is also fitted with hydro generators, which also produce electric power while the yacht is moving under sail.
All electric power produced will be stored in a 5MW battery bank and can be used to create Hydrogen directly on board the yacht. In the absence of wind and sun, the superyacht can run on a hydrogen fuel cell system. “Compared to a traditional yacht in the same size, the fuel reduction is about 90%, but under ideal weather conditions, this yacht will produce more power than it will be using,” explains the press release.
Florida boasts a number of high-end features, such as a superyacht helipad at the foredeck with an elevator to the hangar below deck, a large swimming pool at the aft deck. There’s also a huge selection of toys, including a 40-foot electric Beach Cruiser, an amphibious limousine tender that can actually drive up onto the beach, plus Jet Skis and off-roaders.
It also includes its own fitness center, spa, supercar garage, cinema. The sailing yacht will accommodate up to 24 guests in 12 luxury suites, 40 crew.
In addition, all interior floors and carpentry are made from reclaimed wood, and the vegan leather and exterior launch furniture are all made from recycled plastics.
