Florida-based marine technology start-up Blue Innovation Group (BIG) has announced the launch of its new flagship product, the R30 electric boat.
BIG was founded by John Vo, Tesla’s global head of production, who ran Tesla’s production from 2011 to 2017.
Founder and CEO John Vo has said in a statement, “The R30 will provide the ultimate boating experience for customers with uncompromised safety, performance, style, and value while being environmentally friendly.”
The R30 electric boat measures 30 ft (9.14 m) long, 9.5 ft (2.9 m) high above the waterline, and 10 ft (3 m) wide. Also, it can accommodate up to 12 people on board. The electric boat weighs around 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg).
The R30 is equipped with an 800 hp dual motor powertrain and can provide the boat a maximum speed of 45mph (72.4 km/h).
The electric boat is powered by a 221 kWh battery pack and a 2.7 kW solar canopy, providing the e-boat a maximum runtime of approximately 8 hours.
Moreover, the boat can be charged 80% within 45 minutes with the help of BIG Fast Charger (BFC). Also, it can be charged 80% overnight with home or marine power sources. The boat can also be charged with the integrated solar panel, which takes around a week to charge 50%.
The BIG R30 features a cabin hatch, front lounge, infotainment system, ocean terrace designed to optimize deck space, terrace lounge, kitchenette, an expandable solar canopy, and a 360 camera system.
The R30’s cabin offers an office for conference calls, an entertainment room for movies and karaoke, and a climate-controlled overnight space comfortable for a small family. Its cabin also has a bathroom with a sink and bidet, ample storage, an interactive display, and a safe box. The Kitchenette of the boat has a fridge, sink, and cooktop.
In addition, the helm of the R30 is equipped with an intuitive infotainment system that includes an instrument cluster, chart plotter, and media system all in one, with yoke steering for robust handling.
The official launch of the R30 is expected in December. However, you can reserve the R30 boat by paying a price of US$1,000 for “Blue Reservation,” which provides customers with standard delivery, and $5,000 for “BIG Reservation,” providing customers with access to one of the first 100 boats.
The final price of the BIG e-boat will be around $300,000, and deliveries of the R30 e-boat are expected to start in mid-2024.
