Wisk Aero brings its self-flying, eVTOL air taxi to Washington DC

Wisk Aero, the California-based company that is developing a revolutionary autonomous aircraft, will display one of its 6th Generation, autonomous, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxi mockups during the 2023 U.S. Chamber of Commerce Global Aerospace Summit on September 12 and 13.

Additionally, Wisk CEO Brian Yutko will be joining a panel of industry leaders to discuss the future of air mobility and the importance of autonomy in realizing the full potential and benefits of this new form of transportation.

This event comes after Wisk’s recent success at EAA’s AirVenture/Oshkosh Air Show. The successful public demonstration of its fully autonomous, fixed-wing air taxi flight was a pivotal achievement for the industry. It was a memorable sight for those attending, and Wisk is now set to showcase its technology and capabilities to a wider audience.

“We’re thrilled to showcase our autonomous technology by bringing our 6th Generation Air Taxi to the heart of D.C.,” said Brian Yutko, CEO of Wisk. “The Global Aerospace Summit convenes key stakeholders for important discussions to progress advanced air mobility. We look forward to being part of this discussion and emphasizing the critical role autonomy plays in safety and maintaining U.S. leadership in aviation.”

Wisk’s 6th Generation air taxi is the first-ever candidate for FAA certification of an autonomous, all-electric VTOL aircraft designed for passenger transport. The company is working closely with the FAA on its previously submitted type certification.

The self-flying, four-passenger eVTOL air taxi has a cruise speed of 120 knots (222 km/h), a range of 90 miles (144 km), and can reach cruise altitudes of 2,500-4,000 ft (762-1,219 meters). The aircraft features a proprietary 12-propeller design and boom configuration with improved propulsion systems. A larger passenger cabin with four seats and ample storage for baggage and personal carry-on items make it one of the most versatile air taxis in the market.

Wisk’s 6th Generation aircraft is designed to be a service for everyone, with a price target of $3 per passenger per mile.
