Volkswagen ID.3: Delivery in September, software updates will follow in early 2021

Volkswagen ID.3, the compact electric car, has so far been out of luck, due to software problems and then the Coronavirus crisis. When the ID.3 would be at the dealership was long unclear.

Now the company has announced that the Volkswagen ID.3 is finally to be delivered to the first customers at the beginning of September 2020. Binding orders for the 30,000 models making up the limited 1st Edition of the ID.3. Consumers in most European countries will be able to put a deposit on the EV starting on June 17.

Volkswagen is opening the 1st Mover Club for all early bookers who want to get their ID.3 1st as quickly as possible. Delivery of the ID.3 1st to the “First Mover” will begin in September 2020. However, the App-Connect function and the remote area of the head-up display will not be activated at the market launch in September.

ID.3 early bookers can choose between two different options: First, delivery of their ID.3 1st in early September, combined with membership in the exclusive ID.3 1st Mover Club. This includes various customer benefits – and have a software update for two outstanding digital functions for free later, early next year.

ID.3 early bookers with a little more patience and want those features to be pre-installed on the models can choose the second option for their ID.3 1st when concluding the contract – with a delivery date in the 4th quarter of 2020.

The first edition of the ID.3 has the larger 58 kWh battery, which is driven by an electric motor on the rear axle. It has an output of 150 kW and a maximum torque of 310 Nm. The ID.3 accelerates to 60 km/h (37 mph) in 3.4 seconds with a single gear.

Only the special version ID.3 1st that you have been able to order so far. Other versions for those who have not placed a pre-booking will be available from mid-July. The actual basic version of the ID.3 costs under €40,000 (approximately $45,400). The top-of-the-range version, the ID.3 Max will cost for under €50,000 (about $56,780) and will come with an augmented reality head-up display (AR), two additional loudspeakers, a large panorama roof as well as 20-inch alloy wheels.
