SenseTime unveils AI-powered board game robot for young learners

SenseTime, a Chinese artificial intelligence company, has unveiled its latest addition to its SenseRobot family – the SenseRobot Go – that can play the ancient strategy board game Go.

The SenseRobot Go integrates SenseTime’s cutting-edge AI and robotic arm technology, allowing users to practice and play Go on a real board. It offers an immersive and engaging gaming experience, featuring a vast library of professional AI Go exercises, human-to-machine, and online human-to-human gameplay functions, along with a range of visual, auditory, and tactile interactions.

SenseTime has designed an innovative and special AI exercise feature for the SenseRobot Go. It comprises over 2,000 specialized exercises across seven levels, covering all learning stages, from beginner to amateur 5-dan, to continuously develop children’s Go skills.

With the use of voice and labeling, the board game robot also provides interactive and personalized support for children encountering difficulties in problem-solving. This feature helps children overcome obstacles, eliminate doubts and build confidence.

“The SenseRobot Go is more than just a physical embodiment of software; it is a unique blend of advanced technology and human-like interactions,” said Shen Hui, Dean of Innovative Engineering Institute of SenseTime. “Utilizing the screen, voice, game board, and robotic arm, we have created a systematic learning and practicing experience that emphasizes human-machine collaboration. This exciting approach enables children to concentrate as well as revel in the allure of Go while also promoting overall physical and mental development.”

Equipped with a powerful AI engine, the SenseRobot Go offers boards of different sizes suitable for a wide range of learners. Beginners can start with the 9×9 and 13×13 boards, while the 19×19 board offers human-machine gameplay across 20 levels, including peak battles that surpass the level of human professional 9-dan players. This enables learners of all levels to find a suitable gameplay level to strengthen their critical thinking and broaden their horizons. Additionally, the dedicated App allows learners to analyze their performance and gain experience by reviewing game records.

In addition, the “Star Alliance” function enables children to explore the world of Go with SenseRobot and engage with millions of real-life Go players online.

SenseRobot Go is now available for pre-order. The Pro version is priced at RMB 3,999 ($558) with a pre-sale price of RMB 3,799 ($530). The Master version is priced at RMB 4,999 ($698), equipped with a dedicated mobile power supply and a portable trolley case.
