Riide 2, a smart e-bike with a futuristic design and long-term rental

In recent years, the two-wheeler market has offered several electric bicycles, with some exceptional features. In 2015, Riide was successful on Kickstarter, managing to finance the production of its first eBike and started shipping a year later. Now, the Washington, DC company is back on the market, this time without the aid of crowdfunding, proposing the pre-order of the new Riide 2.

The bike’s design is minimal and vaguely futuristic, characterized by the absence of the horizontal tube. The bike offers a 500 W of average and 750 W of a peak on the road or 1.45-kW off-road power with the hub motor placed behind it. Besides, it comes with a removable battery pack, which stands out for its characteristics, with a capacity of 840 Wh. Riide 2 is an electric bike designed for the American market where the permitted powers are greater than in Europe, as well as the maximum reachable speed, 45 km/h.

Thanks to the rear hub motor, the bike can reach the speed from 20 mph (32 km/h) to 28 mph (45 km/h) and travel from 25 miles (40 km) to 80 miles (128 km) per charge. The battery takes 3.75 hours to get fully charged with a 48V, 4.5A charger.

This 51.9 lb (23.5 kg) bike is equipped with hydraulic disk brakes, levers with the electric cut-off for added safety, and 27.5″ x 2″ Schwalbe Big Ben tires. Riide 2 with connectivity options such as Bluetooth LE, GPS, and 4G LTE is also equipped with a 9-axis accelerometer. The electric bicycle, which can be tracked and customized via the smartphone application, can provide information in all kinds of data and thus makes a difference.

For those who could buy it, there are two possibilities. You can buy the e-Bike entirely, paying $2,799, or choose the long-term rental, with an advance of $299 and then $99 per month. The duration of the contract is 30 months, which also corresponds to the guarantee. In the end, however, the user will become the owner of Riide 2 and will not have to return it.
