Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon G series chips for next-gen portable gaming devices

US-based semiconductor, software, and wireless technology manufacturing company Qualcomm Technologies Inc. has announced all-new Snapdragon G Series chips designed for next-gen portable gaming devices.

The new Snapdragon G Series unlocks a range of options for playing the most demanding games, offering virtually unlimited ways to play any game, anywhere.

Qualcomm has unveiled three new chips, including Snapdragon G1-Gen 1, Snapdragon G2-Gen 1, and Snapdragon G3, also known as G3X Gen 2, to meet the unique performance and feature demands of dedicated gaming devices.

The Snapdragon G3X Gen 2 is an update to the G3X Gen 1, offering significant performance improvements over the G3X Gen 1. Devices built on Snapdragon G3 enable best-in-class gaming experience across various gaming ecosystems.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon G3X Gen 2 SoC comes with an 8-core Kyro CPU and Adreno A32 GPU, which offers 2x faster GPU performance and more than 30% faster CPU performance than its predecessor.

The G3X Gen 2 SoC features hardware-accelerated ray tracing, game super-resolution, XR Glass tethering, low-latency premium Bluetooth audio, and the Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite.

The G3X Gen 2 SoC is also equipped with 5G sub-6 mm-wave and Wi-Fi 7 technology that supports High-Band Simultaneous (HBS), which offers lower latency and can use multiple Wi-Fi radios simultaneously for faster speeds.

“Dedicated handheld gaming devices are the best way to experience mobile games. But gamers want to be able to play all their favorite games across devices and ecosystems, be it their console, PC, or on a cloud service,” said Mithun Chandrasekhar, senior director of product management at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “The new generation of Snapdragon G Series powered devices will be the best place for gamers to play their favorite titles, offering them the ability to choose from the cloud, console, Android, or PC while on the go.”

The Qualcomm Snapdragon G1 chip is designed to power fanless handheld gaming devices for game streaming. The company has focused on providing the best connectivity on this chip for a lag-free experience and battery life.

The Snapdragon G1 features an 8-core Kryo CPU with Adreno A11 graphics, enabling high-quality portable game-streaming devices.

The Snapdragon G2 is the company’s mid-range offering for high-end mobile gaming and cloud experiences. Qualcomm has implemented its FastConnect 6700 mobile connectivity system on this chip to offer 5G and Wi-Fi 6E. The G2 SoC features an 8-core Kyro CPU with Adreno A21 GPU.

The Snapdragon G2 Gen 1 platform will deliver premium mobile and cloud gaming titles virtually anywhere without compromise.

Qualcomm is collaborating with brands including Inventec, Ayaneo, Huaqin, Thundercomm, and others to launch new portable gaming devices powered by the Snapdragon G Series platform.
