NIU introduced its first electric kick scooter for last-mile travel

Known for its incredible fleet of electric motorcycles around the world, NIU has an incredible reputation in the world of electrified personal transportation. The Chinese mobility company has now added its first-ever kick scooter to its portfolio of electric two-wheelers.

Designed to meet the needs of urban micromobility, the NIU Kick Scooter promises impressive range and power packed into a rather affordable package. The Kick scooter will be available in two versions – the NIU Kick Scooter Sport and NIU Kick Scooter Pro.

The NIU Kick Scooter Sport is equipped with a 365 Wh battery and 300 W motor, offering a 40 km (25 miles) range on a single 5-hour charge and a top speed of 28 km/h (17.4 mph). Meanwhile, the Kick Scooter Pro features a 486 Wh battery pack and a 350 W motor, which offers a 50 km (31 miles) range after a 6-hour charge and a top speed of 32 km/h (19.8 mph). Both models, however, will have a regulated top speed of 25 km/h (15.5 mph) in Europe.

The NIU Kick Scooter body has been engineered to ensure optimal balance, comfort, and effortless steering. The neck is designed with a 75-degree incline providing you with greater stability. The scooter is built from aerospace grade aluminium, delivering high structural strength and ultimate rider confidence. Dual-drive disc brakes deliver strong braking power in both dry and wet conditions. What’s more, an iconic halo headlight and built-in bell ensure you’ll be both seen and heard.

Both models have a dual regenerative brake system, wide 9.5-inch pneumatic tires, and weigh between 18.5 and 20 kg, being able to carry people weighing up to 100 kg. These scooters are water-resistant, foldable, and come with app connectivity via Bluetooth. With the NIU App, lock the NIU Kick Scooter with peace of mind, check your riding statistics, or even customize your speed for a truly smart solution.

The cheapest version of the scooter will start at $599, though NIU has yet to release any more details about pricing. The company plans to open pre-orders for both models in June 2021, start shipping to the US and Europe in July, and to other geographic markets in August this year.
