The market for electric scooters has grown exponentially. For some time, this means of transport has become one of the best options for moving around the city. In recent years, we have seen a number of electric scooters with different designs, such as the Kobra e-scooter with big, beefy wheels.
Now, a Singapore startup Mimo has introduced a unique electric scooter that transforms into a shopping cart. The “Mimo C1” is smaller than a bicycle yet has a similar load capacity to a cargo bike. It can carry a rider weighing up to 120 kg and also supports an additional load of 70 kg in the removable loading basket on the front of the e-scooter.
The new Mimo C1 will appeal to people who ride electric scooters for groceries in the store. Thus, you no longer need to take a cart. The cargo compartment can be folded out in 3 seconds to be used as a shopping cart, a cargo trolley, or a suitcase. Its design will be available open-source, so you can customize it for your needs. The user stands on the back half of the scooter, holding onto its handlebars and pressing its throttle switch.
The Mimo C1 has a similar wheelbase to a bicycle, has a much smaller turning radius compares to the long john type of cargo bicycle, therefore more nimble and suitable in congested cities. The removable lithium battery sits under a flap under the deck. According to the manufacturer, one battery charge should be enough for a distance of 15 to 25 km (9 to 15.5 miles) at a top speed of 25 km/h (15.5 mph).
The electric scooter weighs only 17 kg. The front wheel is equipped with a spring suspension, and the rear wheel has a brake system.
Currently, the Mimo C1 is the subject of an Indiegogo campaign, where it is priced at $1,300 with a small rack. If everything goes according to plan, the first deliveries would be available in August.
