World’s first single-pilot light jet capable of nonstop transcontinental flight

Honda Aircraft Company announced “HondaJet Echelon” as the new name of its light jet at the 2023 National Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) taking place in Las Vegas. The name reflects the company’s forward-thinking vision for the next-generation business jet, which offers superior efficiency, premium comfort, and convenience.

The HondaJet Echelon was previously introduced as the HondaJet 2600 Concept in 2021. It is a revolutionary light jet that offers superior performance, comfort, and efficiency to a mid-sized jet in the light jet category.

The company says the aircraft is designed to be the world’s first single-pilot light jet capable of nonstop transcontinental flight across the United States. This not only reduces operating costs but also creates an owner experience that was previously unattainable.

Additionally, the HondaJet Echelonthe design of the HondaJet Echelon incorporates advanced electrification and automation technologies that lead to augmented pilot capabilities, reduced workload, and enhanced safety.

The Echelon features a unique over-the-wing engine mount design that reduces drag and noise, as well as a spacious cabin with a full-service galley, a lavatory, and a baggage compartment. The jet will have the capacity to carry up to 11 crew members and passengers. Two configurations will be available, offering either one crew member and ten passengers or two crew members and nine passengers.

The Echelon can fly up to 2,625 nautical miles (4,862 km) and reach a maximum cruise speed of 450 knots (834 km/h), making it ideal for regional and transcontinental travel. By incorporating aerodynamic innovations, the HondaJet Echelon is set to deliver unmatched fuel efficiency to outperform conventional light jets on typical missions by up to 20% and mid-sized jets by over 40%.

Furthermore, the Echelon boasts advanced avionics and safety systems, such as the Garmin G3000 touchscreen flight deck, the HondaJet Flight Control System, and the Enhanced Vision System. The HondaJet Echelon is the ultimate choice for discerning business travelers who value speed, comfort, and reliability.

The HondaJet Echelon will be manufactured within the existing space of Honda Aircraft Company’s facility at its global headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina. Initial build procedures are slated to commence in 2024, and the first flight is set for 2026, with type certification expected to follow in 2028.

A mockup of the HondaJet Echelon will be displayed next to the HondaJet Elite II at the 2023 NBAA-BACE from Oct 17-19, showcasing both pillars of the company’s product family for the first time.

The HondaJet Elite II is the fastest, highest, and farthest flying aircraft in its class with superior performance, comfort and efficiency born from aerodynamic breakthroughs.
