Vertiia is a unique eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft that sets itself apart by harnessing the power of green hydrogen, a clean and renewable energy source. Vertiia was invented by Andrew Moore, who is the co-founder of an Australian green aviation company, AMSL Aero.
The company has been pioneering eVTOL development and manufacturing for seven years. With decades of experience in the aircraft industry, Andrew Moore has managed to create a one-of-a-kind aircraft concept, supported by the equally impressive experience of his wife, Siobhan Lyndon, in technology and telecommunications.
AMSL Aero successfully tested the first Vertiia prototype, and now, with the appointment of their new CEO, Max York, they are ready to move towards commercial operations for their flagship aircraft. York brings his experience as a former Royal Australian Navy Commander and the former CEO of GE Australia, where he oversaw the commercial activities in the Asia Pacific region.
The Vertiia eVTOL was designed with the Australian environment and operational needs in mind, but it also has global potential. It is the first eVTOL in the world to be powered by hydrogen and also has the most efficient long-range.
The zero-emission aircraft can carry up to five passengers and promises a 1,000 km (621 miles) range coupled with a 300 km/h (186 mph) speed and a maximum payload of up to 500 kg (1,100 lb). The use of sustainable hydrogen power makes it faster and more efficient than similar eVTOLs. It’s also quieter and takes only 10 minutes to refuel without depending on airport infrastructure.
The Vertiia eVTOL combines battery and hydrogen technologies to deliver high performance and low environmental impact. It also claims to reduce operational costs by 70% compared to conventional helicopters, making it an attractive option for urban air mobility.
This Australian aircraft is being developed with versatility in mind. It can be used for air ambulance and emergency response operations in addition to the standard passenger and cargo configurations. The initial tests of the first prototype have been successful, and AMSL Aero is on track to receiving certification.
“AMSL Aero is a leading eVTOL company, and its Vertiia product has the longest range of any aircraft of its type in the world,” Mr York said. “Andrew and Siobhan are inspiring founders who, together with an incredible team, have done a stellar job of building a prototype that has successfully flown recently. I am honored to be joining this team to help fulfill its potential as we continue flight testing, certification, and manufacturing activities.”
