All-new Gulfstream G700 business jet cleared by the FAA

Gulfstream Aerospace, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, announced that their new aircraft, Gulfstream G700, has received type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This paves the way for customer deliveries of the most spacious aircraft in business aviation.

Additionally, the FAA certification confirmed that the aircraft has two new performance improvements, which allow for increased flexibility and airport availability. These improvements include a balanced field length takeoff distance of 5,995 feet (1,827 meters) and a landing distance of 3,150 feet (960 meters) in standard ISA day and sea level, which are both shorter than originally expected.

“We have successfully completed the most rigorous certification program in company history with the G700,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream. “The G700 brings a new level of performance and cabin comfort to business aviation and is doing so while meeting the highest certification standards our industry has ever seen.”

In September 2023, Gulfstream announced some exciting news regarding their G700 aircraft. They revealed that the aircraft’s performance had been enhanced in terms of range, speed, and cabin altitude. According to the announcement, the aircraft’s range had been increased to 7,750 nautical miles (14,353 kilometers) at Mach 0.85 or 6,650 nm (12,316 km) at Mach 0.90, which was 250 nm (463 km) more than the original projections for both speeds.

Additionally, the maximum operating speed of the G700 was increased from Mach 0.925 to Mach 0.935, making it the fastest aircraft in the Gulfstream fleet.

Along with the range and speed increases, it was announced that the cabin altitude of the mentioned document had been reduced to 2,840 ft (866 m) while flying at 41,000 ft (12,497 m), making it even more comfortable for passengers. The cabin also features whisper-quiet noise levels, 20 Gulfstream Panoramic Oval Windows, and 100% fresh, never recirculated air.

The FAA certification has revealed some surprises about the plane’s capabilities on the ground. The takeoff and landing distances are shorter than expected.

Gulfstream promises to offer the most spacious aircraft in business aviation that can accommodate up to 19 passengers. However, the cost of the G700 is not disclosed publicly by Gulfstream, and it’s estimated to be around $75 million, depending on the customer-requested specifications.
