Electric scooters have become one of the most characteristic elements of the urban landscape in recent years. Well, there are also some vehicles that are extraordinarily ingenious, and that gives old concepts a twist.
One such vehicle is the YX One, which has some characteristics of an electric scooter, some of the tricycles, and a soul that reminds how skateboards and snowboards are used. Described by its designers as “the ultimate off-road eBoard,” this electric vehicle stands out from the classic ranges by its design and promises a new experience to its users.
Developed by the Dublin, Ireland-based team, the YX One is equipped with three wheels – two at the front and one at the back – along with a powerful engine and a handle.
This off-road skateboard is 980 mm in length and weighs only around 22 kg. The vehicle houses a lithium-ion battery that offers a maximum range of up to 60 km (37 miles) – depending on weight & conditions. The 624 Wh battery takes three hours to get 80% charged. Besides, it has a 1500 W electric motor capable of offering a maximum speed of 40 km/h (25 mph).
Although it can be used in the city, the YX One has been specially designed for other types of terrain: beaches, trails, fields, with a maximum inclination of 15 degrees, according to the company itself. It is indeed equipped with large tires – rear wheel at 13-inch and the front wheels at 10-inch – and an integrated suspension system.
The rider moves body weight to control, shifting weight front to back, toe-heel to dictate direction where he wants to turn. Additionally, the rider can control the speed and the disk brake via the board’s connected control handle. This ensures a safer ride experience and supporting balance and directional control at higher speeds or short turns.
Currently, the YX One is available on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, where you can pre-order this exceptional vehicle with a 51% discount for $ 1,099. It will ship in time for Summer 2020 when the expected retail price will be $2,290.
