Bajaj Auto has introduced its legendary scooter Bajaj Chetak – that ruled the market for over three decades – in a completely new avatar. New Bajaj Chetak is the brand’s first all-electric two-wheeler in India.
Bajaj Chetak electric scooter has a 4kW electric motor. It uses a unique automated transmission. The scooter has an IP67-rated lithium-ion battery, which is non-removable. The scooter will receive two drive modes namely Eco mode and Sports mode – and it will have a reverse assist feature as well. The brand claimed that once fully charged, the new Chetak will give a range of 95km in Eco mode, while in Sport mode it will run 85km.
The scooter has been given a retro look, while it also has a slight appearance of old Chetak. Also, Bajaj Chetak electric comes with the features like an LED headlamp and tail lamp, feather-touch switchgear, and Fully Digital Instrument Cluster. The high-quality materials are used in areas like the mirror stalks, side stand, and flush-fitting pillion footpegs.
The company intends to start selling the new electric Chetak in Pune and Bengaluru in January 2020, with other cities to follow later. The price of the scooter is still not revealed but it is expected to cost between Rs 1 lakh and 1.5 lakhs.
“Advanced algorithms with edge computing continuously evolve and optimize everything from throttle response to battery charging to extract maximum life from every electric, mechanical and chemical part of the powertrain,” the company wrote on its website. “Plug it, charge it, ride it. That’s all. It’s really as simple as that.”
