Airlander 10 to embark on unique Arctic expeditions

The development of sustainable alternative vehicles is not only essential to reduce emissions but also to enhance the passenger experience. It’s exciting to envision a future where pilotless electric aircraft, hydrogen-electric ferries, and solar-powered catamarans are the norm.

The Airlander 10 can offer a unique and sustainable option for immersive expeditions to remote destinations. Developed by Hybrid Air Vehicles, the aircraft could become an air-based counterpart to these small, green ships that many cruise operators are adopting for boutique experiences.

The UK-based company has entered into an aircraft reservation agreement with Grands Espaces, a French eco-tourism company. Grands Espaces plans to use the Airlander 10 aircraft to embark on unique expeditions in less-explored regions of the world, including within the Arctic region.

This announcement is another step forward in Airlander 10’s entry into the service program, growing an order book already in excess of £1bn and building momentum towards the start of production this year.

The collaboration brings together Hybrid Air Vehicles’ Airlander 10, the world’s most efficient large aircraft, with Grands Espaces’ sustainably minded and pioneering vision of tourism. The reservation will enable the expansion of tourism into new and less-explored regions with ultra-low emissions aircraft.

With its unique ability to take off and land from any reasonably flat surface, including water and ice, the Airlander offers a great opportunity to expand Grands Espaces’ services and offer improved access to areas that cannot be easily reached by conventional aircraft or boat. This will undoubtedly provide a unique and unforgettable experience for guests while keeping the environmental impact low.

Grands Espaces is offering exclusive trips to their customers, including visits to stunning natural sites, providing customers with truly immersive and intimate experiences. They are prioritizing low-impact trips and connecting with local communities.

With production set to begin this year, Grands Espaces will be able to offer customers new Airlander 10 experiences from 2028.

“Airlander is an aircraft that brings great possibilities to the world of travel and tourism, offering more services and new experiences without the negative effects legacy aircraft have on the planet,” said George Land, Executive Director of Sales, Hybrid Air Vehicles. “This agreement with Grands Espaces is so important to us because of our shared values of sustainable growth and responsibility and respect for the environment. Through this reservation agreement, Hybrid Air Vehicles and Grands Espaces are rethinking what is possible for a low-impact, low-carbon tourism industry.”
