WAYV: Smart wearable bicycle safety light system

Riding bicycle at night can undoubtedly be dangerous, much more than during the day. One of the major reasons, bicycles do not have reflectors and bright lights on the front and the rear. The rider is in most endanger especially while turning in low lights. The hand signals are hardly visible. Also, it enhances the possibility of losing control of the bike.

The team of developers and enthusiastic cyclists at WAYV UK found a great, astonishing solution on it. They created an ultimate wearable bicycle safety light system. A single system that has both front and back turn indicators and remains highly visible in different riding positions.

The team has designed a new harness and the helmet equipped with safety lights and signaling to help enhance road safety and visibility.

WAYV comes with three waterproof components – an adjustable harness, a helmet unit, and a handlebar-mounted wireless remote.

Lets’ discuss the components in detail:

The WAYV harness has more than 200 integrated super bright LEDs on front and back, that empowers you to be super bright and super visible. These indicators let traffic and walkers to know in which direction or way you are going to turn or navigate. Besides, indicators keep you in control of your bike with your hands always in the handlebar.

For more visibility, Both the harness and helmet have a large red cross “X” in the middle. This represents a huge red tail-light which can be configured to flash, stay on or switch off while indicating.

The lightweight, breathable and fully adjustable harness offers full comfort to the rider. It can fit over any jacket, t-shirts or backpacks without obstructing any movement. The harness is rechargeable and durable as well as flexible and soft enough that it can easily be folded and stored in a small bag.

The WAYV headsets come with two interesting features. It has an “X” tail light and can be attached with most of the helmets available in the market.

Simply, locate it at the highest point of the cyclists’ helmet and convert a regular helmet into a WAYV indicator helmet. Its ultra-thin and lightweight form factor is waterproof and rechargeable.

Keeping the rider’s comfort in mind, the team has provided a detachable wireless remote on your handlebars. This remote is for controlling the harness and helmet indicator lights simultaneously.

The remote doesn’t have any push button on it, rather the team has given a lever that you just need to flick either up or down with your thumb to activate the indicators. Flick the lever up to activate a left indicator, and flick it down to show right indication.

Once you are done with the turning, return it to its neutral middle position to turn the indicators off. The blinking icons on the remote help to remind you if the indicators are still on after performing a turn.

As far as battery life concern, a single USB charge will allow you to use a harness for five days at 30 minutes per day. Besides, one charge will be good for one week of use for the helmet unit, and two weeks for the remote.

Moreover, the team has designed and developed a WAYV App for smartphones to provide more ease to the user. It allows users to initially sync the system, plus it lets them turn the harness or helmet unit on or off. Also, adjust their brightness, switch them between steady and flashing modes, and check their battery levels.
