Netherlands-based e-bikes manufacturer VanMoof has announced its very first high-speed electric bike, named the V, capable of hitting a top speed of 50 km/h (31 mph). Featuring two-wheel drive, a full suspension frame, advanced acceleration, and next-gen integrated tech, the new bike is set to take you beyond what you thought an e-bike was capable of.
The developers are still working on the bike, so there is no detailed information about the specification. What’s known is the V e-bike will be equipped with motors in both the front and rear wheel hubs that deliver power of up to 1 kW, depending on the configuration. This augments the rider’s pedaling power up to a top speed of 50 km/h, which varies depending on local laws, with the V coming with integrated speed settings to match your country’s regulations.
The two motors will be powered by a 700 Wh internal battery pack, while the range of the electric bike is yet to be known. VanMoof says the V will be built for longer distances at higher speeds. The V bike will be suitable for riders between 165 and 205 cm (5.4 to 6.7 ft).
In addition, the VanMoof V will have thick tires, front and rear suspension, integrated head- and tail-light, and a robust aluminum frame built for smooth riding. The e-bike’s dual-motor provides the powerful acceleration, and the intelligent motor control improves the electric drive, which in turn enhances safety and performance. Other well-known VanMoof technologies, such as the Turbo Boost button, the Kick Lock, automatic gear-shifting, and anti-theft and recovery tech, are also available.
Anyone wishing to purchase a VanMoof V can already register via the waiting list available on the VanMoof website. The reservation is fully refundable and can be canceled at any time. The bike’s expected price is €3498 (approx. $040), and initially, it will only be available in the Netherlands, Germany, France, the UK, the US, and Japan, with the deliveries expected to start by the end of 2022.
