Tern Class 3 HSD S11 cargo e-bike allows riders get to 28 mph

Tern, the company is based in Taipei, Taiwan, has announced a new variant of its HSD cargo/utility e-bike, which is getting a significant performance boost. The newly introduced Class 3 version HSD S11 will help riders get up to 28 mph and range up to 74 miles.

The HSD is a mighty but mini urban e-bike that’s easy to handle but has the hauling capacity of a mid-sized cargo bike. The Tern Class 3 HSD S11 is not a completely new designed electric bike, as mentioned above. With the updates made, the bike has switched to the Bosch Performance Line Sport electric motor, which allows it to reach assisted speeds of up to 28 mph (45 km/h).

The mid-mounted motor produces up to 65 Nm of maximum torque and is said to boost a rider’s pedal input as much as 300% to create a smooth, powerful ride. A Bosch PowerPack 500 Wh battery provides a per charge range of up to 74 miles (118 km).

Of course, this cargo and utility e-bike with a front suspension system can be used for everything from child transport to cargo-carrying and delivery services. The cargo commuter can handle a gross weight of up to 170 kg (374 lb) (includes bike, rider, cargo, and accessories). It weighs 25.6 kg.

Like all HSD models, the HSD S11 comfortably fits riders from 4’11” to 6’5″. And it’s built to carry an additional passenger – from child to small adult (up to 60 kg) – with optional accessories. This new model can be parked vertically, or the seat dropped and the handlebars folded for between-ride transport in the trunk of a car. Other notable HSD S11 features include 20-inch wheels wrapped in Schwalbe Big Ben tires, an 11-speed Shimano Deore XT Shadow+ derailleur, and Magura hydraulic disc brakes.

The e-bike market is booming, but what’s most exciting is that a lot of this growth is from new riders discovering how great it is to get around by bike,” said Steve Boyd, General Manager of Stile, the US distributor for Tern. “Cycling is clean, green, and socially distanced. And with Bosch’s powerful new motor, the HSD S11 just might become the fastest way to get around dense urban neighborhoods.

The HSD S11 is available at the price of $4,199. However, the bike with such high-end features will reach the market on the shelves at the beginning of 2021.
