Electric motorcycles are multiplying, via new specialized players like Zero Motorcycles or classic manufacturers, like Harley-Davidson. Now, the new competitor has appeared in the market. After four years of work, the Brooklyn-USA-based Tarform company is finally introducing its electric motorcycle to the world by the name: Luna. It is a motorcycle with a sexy and modern look and truly spectacular technical specifications.
The Tarform Luna electric motorcycle is a transportation vehicle of the future, originally announced in 2018. The model, which has been postponed due to some engineering problems, is now ready to roll with production in 2020, currently scheduled for release in 2021.
The electric motorcycle is based on a 41 kW (55 hp) PMAC electric motor, powered by a 10 kW lithium-ion battery pack with an integrated 3.3 kW charger. According to Tarform, it can go from 0 to 80% of a full charge in 50 minutes. Level 2 charging is also available. Thanks to the low weight of about 200 kg, Luna is able to complete the sprint of 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 95 mph (153 km/h).
The motorcycle benefits from an innovative regenerative braking system that allows it to power its battery even while driving. In terms of autonomy, Tarform Luna is able to run for almost 120 miles (200 km) in a city setting.
Beyond the technical performance, the motorcycle stands out for its spectacular look, with a hand-built aluminum body, a single vegan leather seat, 18-inch wheels (are standard, but you get a choice of either cast aluminum or spoked when you order) and a large battery box in the middle. Besides, it comes with a 3.4-inch round HD display with Bluetooth connectivity, a 180-degree rearview camera, blindspot detection with haptic feedback, keyless ignition, and three riding modes.
They are unique in the presence of Ohlins front and rear suspension, efficient ISR brakes, or the aforementioned hand-formed aluminum body. Tarform Luna also has an important advantage; the battery can be swapped out very easily, so you can add a better one when the option is possible.
In addition, a Tarform app allows you to view statistics of your travels and gain knowledge that can help you become a better and safer biker. Another interesting feature is the presence of a “Sonic Aura acoustic sound system,” which automatically warns pedestrians of your presence.
The company has started taking reservations for the Luna, with a fully refundable deposit of $500. It is available at the base price of $24,000, and deliveries are scheduled for 2021.
