With the mission of inspiring the creators of tomorrow, the Sphero team has created a new programmable robot. You can not just drive, program, and customize out of the box, but also make, build, and expand with 3rd party hardware.
Meet Sphero RVR- an all-terrain, high torque robot, which is drivable and programmable right out of the box. Also packed with a diverse set of sensors.
Among other things, you wanted a robot that conquers all kinds of surfaces, recognizes faces, has an onboard camera, responds to voice commands, maps the environment, streams music plays laser tag, carries groceries, and flings potatoes into the stratosphere, RVR features all these functions.
It has something for everyone from beginners to experts, from kids to elders.
Let’s walk through Spheros’ new Robot.
RVR Design: Its ergonomic, compact and elegant design makes it highly durable, tremendously functional with simplicity. The interchangeable top allows you to attach the external hardware.
Fully Customizable: RVR is more than just a fun, programmable robot. It is highly customizable. The team has added some amazing features in it that makes it a great platform for all the hackers, educators, students, technical hobbyists and anyone else ready to take it to the next level.
Also, with the Sphero Edu App, it becomes very easy to customize it. You can easily program RVR and hack it.
Advanced Control System: The powerful motors, wheel, and its high-resolution encoders and an onboard 9-axis IMU, you can easily drive, correct, and navigate based on heading and relative position. It is expertly engineered so that obstacles, disruptions, and uneven surfaces won’t affect your driving experience.
Unstoppable: RVR can reach speeds of over 2 meters (6.5 feet) per second and with enough torque to climb the steepest hills. As mentioned, the RVR is all-terrain Robot that goes wherever you want it to go, on any rough surface with precise and accurate driving.
Battery: RVR has a rechargeable, removable, high-capacity battery which powers the motors with a 7.4v of the output. It can entertain you up to 2hours. The battery charges quickly and delivers the power that you need for a long session. It can even charge the third-party hardware.
Universal Compatibility: It comes with the universal expansion port and onboard power, that enables you to attach and run third-party hardware like a Raspberry Pi, BBC micro:bit, or Arduino, and send and receive data over UART and USB.
Sensors: The RVR comes packed with various sensors like color sensor, light sensor, IR, magnetometer, accelerometer, and gyroscope. The sensors send data to our Sphero Edu app and allow for things like color recognition, robot-to-robot communication, light intensity detection, and relative location.
Software Libraries: The team has also provided some software libraries for Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and BBC micro:bit. The library will help you to how to program, in a step-by-step and easy way.
What more you can get out of it is all depend upon your imagination and creativity level.
RVR enables you to make things that you never thought possible. Moreover, the built-in communities will help you to learn to programme in an easy way.
Overall, RVR can be the big, beautiful, programmable Robot for you, if you are an artist and want to explore your creativity.
