Segway eMoped C80, a smart moped-style eBike with 85 km of range

There are more and more alternative proposals for personal mobility, such as electric scooters, and among them is the Segway eMoped C80, the first-ever smart moped-style eBike by Segway.

The Segway eMoped C80 measures 1.59 meters long, 0.7 meters wide, and just over a meter high, with a wheelbase of 1.15 meters and its weight of 55 kg, including the battery.

A small permanent magnet electric motor, associated with its rear wheel and with a power of 750 W, drives the Segway eMoped C80, allowing it to reach speeds of up to approximately 20 mph (32 km/h). This makes it an ideal vehicle for traveling on segregated cycle lanes and 18 miles (30 km/h) streets. A removable 1.15 kWh (2 Ah and with a voltage of 48 V) Li-ion battery housed under the seat gives it a range of up to 53 miles (85 km), which is not very surprising given its low speed of point.

Besides, Segway eMoped Smart Lock System can be triggered by the AirLock System, which can be connected via the Segway-Ninebot App. A simple touch on the NFC tag can also lock and unlock the electric scooter. Segway eMoped equipped with the RideyGo! intelligent system, which has powerful sensors that detect when you are leaving and automatically locks the vehicle in 3 seconds.

In addition, the device will remain locked in cases of improper landing for the safety of the driver. It is also reported that the lockout timer can be customized to suit individual preferences.

In the middle of the handlebars is a dashboard that shows the speed and battery level. The ebike can be equipped with separate seats for babies and children, and also has a central two-stage shock absorber. The Auto Cruise feature in the Segway-Ninebot app and the multifunction button on the right side of the scooter allows the rider to select the desired speed for a smooth ride.

The electric bike is equipped with premium features on the front disc and rear drum brakes to ensure your safety during sudden halts and elevate your riding experience. A spring-suspended front fork provides a comfortable ride on uneven roads. The model meets the IPX7 standard if it is not afraid of puddles and rain.

The eMoped C80’s smart security system detects any irregular movements and sends notifications to your smartphone within seconds, by activating alarms. There are four types of alarms to help protect the electric scooter, including visual, audible, motion sensor alarms, and a phone notification system. The driver will be able to track and receive information about the status of the trip using GPS and a proprietary application.

The novelty is great for short journeys. The Segway eMoped C80 can be pre-ordered on Indiegogo, where the company has launched a fundraising campaign for the smart electric scooter. The pledges start at $1,899, with the retail price expected to be $2,199. Deliveries of the e-moped will start in November this year. Earlier, Xiaomi and Ninebot (which bought Segway in 2015) launched a series of electric bicycles, Ninebot C40, C60, and C80.
