Remote-controlled robot urges Singaporeans to stay at home

The police in Singapore started using a robot this week to address a visitor in a park. The talking robot O-R3 calls on people to keep a distance from others and also to stay safe and stay at home as much as possible.

O-R3, the Intelligent Autonomous Security Robot, was created by Otsaw, a robotics company with offices in Singapore and California. The autonomous safety unit was originally acquired a year ago by the PUB Water Agency to survey plants and reservoirs.

The vehicle was spotted patrolling the Bedok Reservoir Park to help officers prevent the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19. O-R3 is controlled by remote control, and the battery allows it to move one kilometer, though it is expected to be “upgraded” to four kilometers.

It urges people in the park to keep distance when doing activities, especially in public spaces. The O-R3 is equipped with a 360-degree camera and is able to send information in real-time to the controller. O-R3 is able to capture, record, and process a vast amount of data in real-time that can be streamed back to our control room. This robot was originally used by water management bodies as security supervisors in various reservoirs in Singapore.
