Since 2018, the Chinese robotics company Deep Robotics has worked on an atypical robot dog called Jueying Mini Lite. Looking at the robot, we realize that this robot dog has something that is already familiar to us, which is normal, since this invention by Deep Robotics strongly resembles the Spot robot from Boston Dynamics, both in terms of looks or performance.
The model even uses the yellow color typical of the American company, which now belongs to Hyundai. Based on advanced control algorithms, Jueying Mini Lite has a variety of motion modes such as walking, sliding, jumping, running, backflip, etc.; freely superimposed intelligent modules capable of autonomous positioning and navigation, real-time obstacle avoidance, and visual recognition.
The robot is 50 cm long, 35.5 cm high, weighs around 9 kg, and has a maximum payload capacity of 5 kg. On the functional side, it can be controlled by voice command and can respond by voice. Its battery life is between 1.5 – 3 hours and can reach the maximum speed of 3.5m/s.
In addition to this acrobatic demonstration version, the robot is available in several editions, some of which are dedicated to industry, in order to carry out missions that humans cannot accomplish. It can be pre-programmed and also has a certain autonomy thanks to several neural networks based on learning. This AI allows it not to reproduce the same errors and self-improve in the event of a fall. Jueying Mini Lite is also equipped with several sensors and a LiDAR to avoid obstacles, which gives users a better interactive experience and safety guarantee.
In addition, it is possible to pre-program this robot dog so that it follows a specific person. Jueying Mini Lite also embeds a mapping function and, thanks to the Cloud, can exchange information with its peers to respectively improve its functionality. Unfortunately, the price is unknown, as is its international availability.
