PUMA presents new sportswear collection made from recycled plastic

To help fight plastic pollution, the global sports giant PUMA and First Mile have launched an environmental project. They presented a collection of sportswear – shorts, pants, and jackets – and shoes made from at least 83% to even 100% recycled yarn produced by plastic bottles collected in the First Mile network.

The famous football players such as Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann, Sergio Aguero, Marco Royce, and Axel Witzel participated in advertising the campaign.

First Mile is a network that helps the micro-economies in Taiwan, Honduras, and Haiti in the collection of plastic bottles, with the aim of reducing pollution and, at the same time, creating jobs. These collected plastic bottles are then selected, cleaned, shredded, and transformed into yarn, which is subsequently used in the creation of different products.

Even though one of the key benefits of this partnership is social impact, the PUMA and First Mile program have diverted over 40 tonnes of plastic waste from landfills and oceans, just for the products made for 2020. This roughly translates into 1,980,286 plastic bottles being reused,” said Stefan Seidel, Head of Corporate Sustainability for PUMA.

Partnering with First Mile is part of PUMA’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and live up to its ‘Forever Better‘ motto. The PUMA x First Mile Collection is available from February 25, 2020, in PUMA.com, PUMA Stores, and selected retailers worldwide.
