PlayStation 5 Pro offers 45% faster rendering with 8K gameplay support

Sony has announced its PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro), a mid-generation upgrade of the PlayStation 5, and is the “most advanced and innovative console hardware” to date. The hardware is developed explicitly for engaged players and creators, who demand higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS.

Similar to the PlayStation 4 Pro, the PlayStation 5 Pro aims to enhance the graphics quality with three core improvements: GPU, Ray Tracing, and AI-driven image scaling.

Sony has upgraded the GPU to have 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console, offering 28% faster memory, claiming that the PS5 Pro delivers 45% speedier gameplay rendering, making the gaming experience much smoother with the PlayStation 5 Pro.

The other development of this console is the inclusion of Advanced Ray Tracing, which provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. Given the fact that graphics drivers rely on Compute Units for ray tracing, the increase in these compute units will furnish better tracing of the light rays as they interact with objects, significantly benefiting the PlayStation 5 Pro.

Also, Sony has introduced its PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven image upscaling that uses machine learning to provide better image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of details, making the PlayStation 5 Pro stand out.

The other enhancements, the PS5 Pro Game Boost feature, have backward compatibility with more than 8,500 PS4 games. This feature may improve the image quality to enrich the resolution of the game. Moreover, PS5 Pro supports VRR and 8K Gaming for the ultimate PlayStation 5 Pro experience.

As the company wants to witness the latest technology from PS5 Pro, they are pushing free software updates for several games, allowing players to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games will be labeled with PS5 Pro Enhanced within their titles.

Given the same height and width as the PS5, the PS5 Pro is compatible with the current PS5 accessories. Making it even more effortless to use, the user interface and network services are the same as the PS5. While the PS5 Pro won’t come with a disc drive, players can have a separate disc drive accessory for PlayStation 5 Pro games.

Sony revealed the final specs of the PlayStation 5

The pre-order for The PS5 Pro console begins on September 26, 2024, and the official launch on November 7, 2024. The PS5 Pro is priced at $699.99, and it includes a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom.
