Newron EV-1 e-motorcycle with wooden body is taking pre-orders

What do you think of a motorcycle made of wood, leather, and electricity? This is the bet of French manufacturer Newron Motors. Pre-orders for an electric, wooden motorcycle called the EV-1 have been opened after the company presented its curiously designed vehicle to the public last year.

One of the unique features of this bike is the organic curved Wooden bodywork that creates a sort of skeleton effect. Underneath the flawless, eye-catching design, a large cylindrical battery is hidden and LED lighting that has the ability to change colors is placed around the battery. To give exclusivity, the EV-1 also has abundant use of quality materials, such as titanium and carbon fiber, and tailoring techniques for leather finishes.

The motorcycle can accelerate to 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in just three seconds.

Thanks to the 75 kW PMAC engine, providing 240 Nm of torque, the electric motorcycle can accelerate to 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in just three seconds. It can reach the maximum speed of up to 137 mph (220km/h), and before the battery runs out, the motorcycle can go up to 186 miles (300 km). The battery supports the fast charging technology that recharges it to 80% in around 40 minutes from a DC charge station (standard charging takes place in 5 hours).

Slide to the cockpit, fatbar-style handlebars equipped with rear-view mirrors to make it look more minimalist. Besides, the EV-1 also comes equipped with onboard navigation through GPS, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Bluetooth to easily connect the rider through their smartphone. Newron is currently developing an intelligent system that would allow riders to set the desired destination for a motorcycle so that the vehicle can use the available energy in the most efficient way.

Through a partnership with the French companies Dassault systems and Advans, Newron plans to produce 12 copies of this motorcycle in 2020. These companies have already collaborated on acceleration enhancement programs.

Those wishing to reserve a copy of this unique machine need to make a deposit of €2,000, with a total cost of €60,000 ($65,000). In the event of a cancellation of the purchase, the deposit will be returned, and delivery is expected in 2021, according to the Newron Motors website.
