South Korean telecommunications company KT has launched an AI-enabled hotel service robot in Seoul that can deliver goods to rooms. The carrier robot, known as N bot, can be called by guests to their rooms at the Novotel Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun Hotels & Residence.
KT, the company used 3D location mapping, autonomous driving, and AI camera capabilities to develop the robot. Guests can use a voice command or touch screen of KT’s GiGa Genie device in a room to make a list of the goods they need, such as a towel or bottled water. With the help of its autonomous driving technology, the N bot will take the requested goods and take the elevator on its own to deliver it to guests. The robot can stop or pass by oncoming people to avoid collisions or accidents.
Currently, the service is available in 100 rooms at Novotel, but the operator said it would expand this facility in the future. N bot will also work at the hotel for Christmas to deliver special gifts to guests, the developer said. KT hopes it will provide guests with new experiences and help hotel crews to focus on their core services and enable them to manage resources better to improve customer service.
Robots continue to replace humans in many hotel tasks. Last month we saw a cooking robot called “LG CLOi Chefbot” from LG Electronics that can cook and serve noodles in family restaurants.
