Meet RDSX Pelican, a fixed-wing and multirotor hybrid VTOL drone

Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) drones can perform vertical take-off and landing using a multirotor. These drones are beneficial in areas with unavailable horizontal runways and can land or hover almost anywhere. VTOL drones are available in the market extensively for various purposes such as deliveries, videography, surveillance, etc.

A2Z Drone Delivery has presented the new RDSX Pelican. It is a hybrid fixed-wing and multirotor VTOL drone designed for long-distance commercial drone deliveries. It can take off with 55 pounds (25 kg) weight and can fly with a cruising speed of 45 knots (83 km/h) to travel swiftly.

Pelican is configured with the A2Z’s RDS2 Drone Delivery winch, which enables deliveries from higher altitudes where spinning propellers are kept far from people. This drone can cover up to 25 miles (40 km) roundtrip with the 11 pounds (5 kg) payload and deliver or pick up cargo without needing a human receiver while maintaining hover at a safe altitude, enabling secure, accurate, and low-noise drone deliveries.

RDSX Pelican was also designed to reduce operational costs for commercial drone delivery fleets, increasing the scalability of that drone delivery ecosystem. Boasting an attractive 13 cents/kg/km operating cost, the RDSX Pelican provides the efficiency, payload capacity, and reach needed to scale commercial drone delivery operations.

“Here at A2Z Drone Delivery, our development is not just about maximizing performance; it’s about creating usable tools designed to get work done,” said Aaron Zhang, Founder, and CEO of A2Z Drone Delivery, Inc. “A full-service drone delivery ecosystem will need a fleet of short, medium, and long-range UAV platforms capable of depositing payloads in various settings. The new RDSX Pelican is that last-mile fleet’s highly efficient, long-range delivery platform. It is thoughtfully designed to minimize potential points of failure, reducing the overall cost-per-kilometer of logistics operations, all while providing maximum payload flexibility.”

Besides logistics applications such as residential delivery, Pelican can be fully customized to suit unique mission criteria such as aerial mapping, drone inspection, forestry services, search and rescue operations, water sample collection, offshore delivery, mining, etc.

You can pre-order Pelican at a starting price of $29,000 from their official website, and it is available in multiple configurations.
