The mystery of what Sony’s new PlayStation 5 console looks like was revealed this Thursday. With a black body surrounded by white edges, the Japanese firm offered the first look at the new console that will hit the market alongside rival Xbox later this year.
Unlike its predecessor, which carries a deep black shell, PS5 now appears with white and black wrapping, like the DualSense controller that had been announced earlier this year. When viewed from a horizontal position, the top of the console (which is white) looks curved and uneven, and the bottom also carries a similar design language. This is really just a preview of the console design; we still don’t know if it will be available in other colors.
At PS5’s launch, the company will offer two options: a PlayStation 5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition without a disc drive. The digital version of the console is, therefore, a little thinner, having no reader. The PS5 should be able to play most PS4 titles; however, it will be necessary to monitor Sony’s announcements to find out exactly which games will be backward compatible.
In addition to the PS5, Sony also boasts a number of accessories that accompany the console. Some of them are like DualSense wireless controller and its charging module, HD Camera, Pulse 3D Wireless Headset, to Media Remote.
Previously, Sony had already revealed the specifications of the PlayStation 5. There are still a lot of unanswered questions about the PS5, namely the price and release date.
