Federal Moto’s first custom sportbike Danger Zone is inspired by Top Gun

In the first Top Gun, the cult film of the eighties that made Tom Cruise famous as the pilot Maverick, he drove a Kawasaki GPZ900R. In its sequel, he still runs high from the same producer, but a Ninja H2 instead. An evolution of the species that brings to modernity the same sensations of the first film, or at least that is the intent.

Inspired by the brand and the movies, Michael Muller, David Pecaro, and Desmond DiGiovanni of Federal Moto took a GPZ1100 and rebuilt it by imagining how Maverick’s bike could be today. The creation has been renamed “Danger Zone” after the first film’s motif.

The result is a stunning machine with a sleeker, more aerodynamic look to match the bruising performance. The hoist has received several 3D printed parts, a rack of four Mikuni carbs from an ’84 KZ1000, stainless steel silencers from Cone Engineering, tank from Honda CB1100, and front forks from Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa to name a few. With regard to color, they chose white blacks together with Kawasaki Green.

The rear subframe and the brackets were made by hand, as was the 18-gauge steel seat pan under which the electronics are hidden. Cognito Moto supplied a steering stem and a custom hub to attach the 18-inch front rim. The specialists from Relicate took care of the seat made of black leather and suede, upholstered by Dane Utech. The brakes in the Danger Zone were updated with a four-piston brake caliper from Tokico, among other things.

From the engine of the 1984 Kawasaki GPZ 1100, a 120 hp and 73 Nm of maximum torque were squeezed, with a top speed of 217 km/h (135 mph).
