Ekso Bionics unveils more flexible, comfortable EVO Exoskeleton

Shoulder injuries caused by overhead work, repetitive tasks, and overexertion is the leading cause of lost workdays due to workplace injuries. Ekso Bionics is striving to alleviate the burden on skilled workers, drastically reducing the number of workplace injuries and cutting down on worker fatigue.

Ekso Bionics has unveiled EVO, an endurance-boosting assistive Upper Body Exoskeleton that alleviates the burden of repetitive work. The EVO Upper Body Exoskeleton is designed to reduce fatigue and shoulder and back muscle strain, with the goal of eliminating work-related injuries to the neck, shoulder, and back.

It is lighter and more flexible than its predecessor, with an optimized human-machine interface that is cool and comfortable to wear for all-day use. Its progenitor was the EksoVest model, which is used by, among others, Ford, in order to help prevent work accidents and reduce fatigue for its employees.

EVO, the next evolution of EksoVest, is quite similar to it, but is a more airy model with the same workload capacity as before, while also maintaining the ruggedness and durability that Ekso is known for. The exoskeleton offers 5 to 15 lb (2.3 to 6.8 kg) of lift assistance in each arm to elevate and alleviate the day-to-day strain on workers across all industries.

The company has improved the design, manufacturing, and ergonomics to ensure that EVO delivers an exceptional user experience for workers of all sizes and trades. It also features additional technology based on market feedback.

EVO’s novel design also incorporates Ekso’s new patented low profile, multi-link structure, which tracks the natural movement of the body and allows for an unrestricted range of motion. Besides, the device architecture is compatible with standard safety harnesses used in elevated work.

Additionally, EVO has minimal touch points than EksoVest and covers a smaller part of the body. The exposed back, therefore, remains cooler, while EVO does the heavy lifting for you.

With a new customized fit, natural tracking, and reduced weight, EVO is incredibly comfortable. These advancements make EVO the ideal solution for a wide range of industrial, manufacturing, food processing, and construction applications.
