Have you ever wondered how fast a car would travel if it had rocket thrusters installed? It is not clear how safe such a car would be, but a concept video that went viral on twitter gives us an idea of how fast a Tesla Roadster could go if it had SpaceX thrusters fitted onto it.
The video, created by Slave Popovski (@Pslavi on Twitter), a visual effects expert and an aeronautical engineer, shows the spectacular acceleration of the Tesla Roadster, from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in a matter of 1.1 seconds with the SpaceX package.
In a word, wow! Of course, it is not known whether the vehicle can actually reach this speed. But almost 100 km/h in 1.1 seconds doesn’t look good at all for human safety.
It shows that the new Roadster would be almost twice as fast as the data mentioned by Tesla for the electric supercar in its normal form, capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds. For those who do not know, the vehicle will reach the top speed of over 250 mph (400 km/h) and will have a 620 miles (1,000 km) range on a single charge at highway speeds. The super sports electric car, which is stated to have a 200 kWh battery, is breathtaking with its 10,000 Nm torque value.
Elon Musk said that at some point in the short term Tesla has the plan to offer a “SpaceX Package” for Roadster customers, where it would use cold gas thrusters. This version of the vehicle will use SpaceX cold gas thruster system with ultra high-pressure air in a composite over-wrapped pressure vessel in place of the 2 rear seats.
Maybe this news with the video will give you an idea of what you should expect if you bought that package for the Tesla Roadster. It remains to be seen whether a special permit will be required to pilot such a rocket… and how often the tires will endure!
