Bakeries and wineries rely heavily on yeast, but they don’t require green algae. In contrast, wastewater treatment plants might benefit from the collaboration of these microorganisms. Researchers at Osaka Metropolitan University have found that these basic organisms create the most effective partnership for enhancing the efficiency of wastewater treatment. The active sludge wastewater treatment method needs electricity to maintain the oxygen flow that sustains the bacteria and other organisms responsible for processing the water.
