The surprising object floats on the sea to harvest fresh water

Dalhousie researchers create solar-powered floating water purifier

Researchers at Dalhousie University have developed a plasmonic nanoparticle-based floating system, that uses tires to float on the water source. On installing it, it instantly starts generating fresh water by using photothermal nanomaterials to convert sunlight into heat. This heat is used for evaporation. After separating the salt, water recondenses on the clear plastic dome of the device.
