A new study by Curtin University examines the relationship between social media use (SMU), psychological distress, and inhibitory attentional control, addressing inconsistencies in earlier research. Unlike previous studies, which had methodological limitations, this research uses objective measures for both SMU and attentional control. The findings challenge the belief that heavy social media use significantly harms mental health, suggesting that there is little to no relationship between the two.
