Scientists are incorporating chloroplasts into animal cells to harness energy from sunlight

Researchers created solar-powered animal cells, by combining chloroplasts from algae with hamster cells

Researchers at the University of Tokyo have combined chloroplast from the algae with the hamster cells, enabling the cells to harness energy from the sunlight. The team found that the chloroplasts continued to perform photosynthesis for up to two days. Intriguingly, researchers noticed that hamster cells grew faster than usual after incorporating it with the chloroplast. Such Planimal cells could be ‘game-changing cells’ to achieve a green transformation.
