Plastics can be both tough and recyclable

Revolutionary polymer design balances toughness and recyclability

A new study from Osaka University has developed strong plastics that can be easily broken down and recycled into new materials, addressing the recycling issue.

Polymers, which are long chains of monomers, make up the bulk of plastics. Current recycling methods typically reuse these polymers without breaking them down, resulting in recycled plastic that is often of lower quality than the original.
