Recent studies have revealed that plants compete for space on pollinating agents to place their pollen grains. However, the pollinating agent arriving at the plant could’ve already been covered with the pollens of rival plants. To overcome this hurdle, the Hypenea macrantha plant has developed an explosive mechanism, that wards off the rival pollen from the pollinator and places its own pollen grains. This is a new survival mechanism, which was considered absent in the plant kingdom, until now.
