A research team at ETH Zurich, led by Professor Nicolas Noiray and in collaboration with Romain Fleury from EPFL, has developed a method to prevent sound waves from traveling backward while enhancing their forward movement. This one-way sound system relies on self-oscillations, where a dynamic system repeatedly behaves in a specific way. The researchers believe this approach could also be applied to electromagnetic waves.
