A massive black hole caught sleeping after meal

A much-needed nap.

A team of astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope made a remarkable discovery of a massive black hole in the early universe. Located about 800 million years after the Big Bang, this black hole has a mass 400 million times that of the Sun. It is currently dormant, having consumed a significant amount of material and is in a “napping” state. The black hole resides in the host galaxy JADES GN+189.09144+62.22811 1001830, also referred to as GN-1001830.
