Dying cells in inflammation trigger healing signals

Oxylipins and metabolites.

A study by Prof. Kodi Ravichandran’s team (VIB-UGent) found that pyroptosis, a type of cell death, causes both inflammation and tissue healing. Published in Nature, the research suggests that pyroptotic cells release molecules like prostaglandin E2, which promote wound healing. This dual role of pyroptosis could lead to new treatments for chronic wounds and inflammatory diseases.
