A new study from the University of Zurich suggests that advanced behaviors, like tool use, could be passed down and refined across generations. Lead author Cassandra Gunasekaram, from the Department of Evolutionary Anthropology, explained that while human technological advancements, such as the wheel or computers, have clear historical records, the perishable nature of chimpanzee tools—such as sticks and stems—makes it difficult to confirm this hypothesis for them.
