Pregnancy brings significant bodily changes, but brain changes during this time were less understood. For the first time, UC Santa Barbara researchers scanned a woman’s brain from before pregnancy to two years postpartum. Their study revealed that the brain adapts throughout pregnancy, with a decrease in gray matter and an increase in white matter.
