Cambridge research targets early cancer detection

Study tracks immune tumor detection

Cancer is often diagnosed only after tumors have grown, requiring extensive treatments. Researchers at the University of Cambridge will receive over £1.5 million from Cancer Research UK to study how the immune system detects and targets cancer cells as tumors form. Led by Dr. Heather Machado, the team will use advanced genome sequencing to track T cells’ responses to early-stage tumors.
